Coughlan Family of Cork County, Ireland, & St. Louis, Missouri Minimize

Coghlan Family 1904 Worlds copy2.jpgThis is my Irish ancestry, the Coughlan family. This particular group is from St. Louis, Missouri. The head of the family, Patrick, is my great grandfather (my father's mother's father). He was born in St. Louis in 1861. His wife was Bridget Gallagher. The picture shows their kids all standing around them. My grandmother, Marcella Coughlan was not born yet. This photo shows her mother Bridget Gallagher pregnant with her. My grandmother was born in October of 1906, so the picture was taken soon before that date, perhaps for the World's Fair that took place in St. Louis in that year.

Patrick Coughlan was the son of Irish immigrants from Cork County, Ireland. His parents were John Coglan and Mary Mafahy. Mafahy might be a corruption of Murphy, not sure yet. The Coglan's immigrated to St. Louis after already being married, they arrived in 1848, products of the Irish Potato Famine, which forced many Irish to come to America.
